Wikilandian Association of University and College Athletics
The Wikilandian Association of University and College Athletics (WAUCA) is the national governing body of intercollegiate athletics in Wikiland. Thousands of schools compete against each other in various sports, including, but not limited to American football, basketball, baseball, track and field, and volleyball.
American football
A typical WAUCA American football season works in a way similar to the NCAA in the United States. The top teams in each province are ranked in a poll, as well as the top teams in Wikiland overall. The top 27 teams qualify for the postseason, along with the 165 provincial champions, with a few exceptions:
- If the provincial champions are in the top 27, then the runners-up qualify for the postseason.
- If both the champions and runners-up are in the top 27, then third place qualifies, and so on.
Both the provincial and national championship games are held at a neutral site.
Basketball
Wikiland's March Madness is four times bigger than in the U.S., with 260 teams compared to 68, featuring the 165 provincial champions and 95 at-large bids. Eight teams play four play-in games—the opening games of the tournament—to determine the final four entrants on the 256-team bracket.
Football
There is, in fact, no organized WAUCA football competition. Teams associated with WAUCA compete with the big guys in the provincial pyramids. Imagine someone on the Wiki City State Cruisers scoring the provincial title-winning goal against the heavy favoured Las Focas Humpbacks—a professional team—sending 98,705 fans into jubilant celebration and thus qualifying for The Wiki League A for the Cruisers.
